Does Elon Musk Plan To Buy Facebook and Then Delete It?

In the past week, the world discovered that Facebook improperly shared 1 million British users' information with election consultancy Cambridge Analytica and that an unrelated data-scraping operation extracted the data of most of the company’s 2 billion users might have been a shock to many. Facebook CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, took full responsibility for this breach in user privacy and no one has been fired over the issue. To learn more about the general issue read this article from The Guardian.

Though many are surprised that Facebook is not as private as they thought, Space-X and Tesla CEO, Elon Musk, was not surprised in the least. On Monday, Musk posted on Twitter saying "Facebook gives me the willies." When asked to delete Space-X's Facebook page, Musk replied, "I didn't know there was one. Will do." He has now officially deleted both Tesla and Space-X's Facebook pages.

Because of the fuss about Musk deleting and generally being against Facebook, Alternative Science published an article titled, "Elon Musk Offers To Buy And Then Delete Facebook." This article says that Musk reached out to Facebook to buy every share of the company. It quotes Musk saying, “I’ve got some cash to burn, so if Zuck wants to make a deal, he knows where to find me." The article then goes onto say that during the meeting with investors he showed them a video that "shows a SpaceX Falcon rocket blasting off into the sky. At one point the two solid boosters fall off and glide on a precise path down to the landing pad. Both rockets land perfectly square, and one ends up resting gently on a big red button labeled 'DELETE.'"

Many readers took this article seriously but it turns out that the article is completely satirical. Elon has never expressed plans to buy and then delete Facebook, but he does not seem to mind that people think so.  Musk replied to a tweet about him blowing up Facebooks satellite, playing along.

How do you feel about Facebook sharing users information? Do you agree with Musk's approach to the situation? Do you think he should have told the world the article is not true? Let me know in the comments!
